I've held his hand my entire life
and he held on to me
always knowing the right words
always knowing the right way

but his grip loosened
yet I, the rebel
held tighter

He slowly stopped saying the right words
He slowly stopped showing the way

Suddenly he looked older
more tired
and I don't need his words
I don't need his guidance

But if I'd ever need it
I know

he'll always hold out his hand for me

I'm quite the father's little girl.

This is beautiful. You've captured such an important, yet often difficult, relationship perfectly.

Thank you very much! I really felt I had to try and capture my image of my dad, he's such a role-model for me :)

Well I'm glad for you. I detest (the strongest word I could think of without cussing) my father. And the feeling is mutual.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.
I wrote this poem as I realized I am indeed very lucky to have such a father.

Beautiful!
And a father will always watch out for his daughter, no matter what :)
